In January 2018, during the sixth annual Talking Galleries symposium in Barcelona, art galleries from around the world convened to debate how best to weather the art market’s imminent structural changes in the year ahead.

After two days of panel discussions, a handful of familiar issues surfaced: the increasingly global marketplace, a thinning middle market, the lack of transparency and bottom-up market distortions. The general sentiment among attendees revealed an art world in need of novel methods and strategies for opening new markets and connecting with art lovers online.

Connecting with patrons online is a relatively new phenomenon, and one that is leaving many institutions struggling to find their footing in a landscape inundated with new technologies. Artnet’s Tim Schneider moderated a powerful panel discussion on the topic, offering insights on best practices from leading industry experts including Sophie Neuendorf, director of Artnet’s Gallery Network, and Saskia Clifford-Mobley, head of Artsy’s gallery partnerships in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Of the more profound sentiments arising from the discussion was the general consensus that shortcut solutions for a venue’s online strategy simply do not exist, and that a venue must be willing to seek outside help from digital media professionals.

In the spirit of telling the stories of the curators and artists behind featured exhibitions and works of art, Eazel maintains a comprehensive editorial calendar and virtualizes spaces where fine art is shown to the public. To empower the business of dealers and galleries, Eazel doubles as a data-driven analytics platform that supports vertically-integrated sales and marketing initiatives.

In addition to being able to present the spatial context for works of art, Eazel's technology can also be calibrated to accommodate particular genres of art. For instance, we can work with a curator to establish the creative objective of a given exhibition and emphasize the aspects of the art presented that are most important to the artist or curator.

Once the VR experience of an exhibition has been captured, Eazel’s team of experts will open a conversation with the gallerist or curator in charge to identify the goal and develop a plan for the VR experience in support of achieving this goal. Using our data analytics service, Eazel makes evidence-based determinations regarding how to adapt a given exhibition for particular audiences.

A New Way of Archiving

Eazel’s VR technology introduces a new method by which exhibitions can be archived. Once an exhibition is on the Eazel platform, it remains available to be experienced by art lovers and managed by its curators and artists indefinitely. Even after an exhibition has ended and the physical space is being used for something else, Eazel's online audience can enjoy what once was as many times as they wish. Additionally, Eazel's VR exhibitions offer exclusive auxiliary content that enrich the viewer's experience.

Viewers can watch any ongoing or past exhibition from around the world, anywhere and at any time, and experience the world's most sought-after art shows from the comfort of their couch. Eazel will soon launch a light-weight, high quality cardboard VR headset, which delivers the best VR experience for art exhibitions.

Data analytics can confirm or rebuff an institution's intuition about how people are experiencing the art they show-and which particular works of art within a gallery or exhibition draw the most attention. Such analyses - along with their corresponding statistics - offer unprecedented insight into the reception of art galleries and exhibitions. Our data analytics offers understanding into how users eyes are drawn to specific pieces, the average time spent in each filmed spot/area, head and eye movements, as well as path movement tracking.

On a platform level, Eazel can record and analyze the movement of people as they navigate across the content on the website. Using these analyses, Eazel can provide curators and venue owners with a profile of their audience, such as how much time visitors are spending looking at particular works of art, the most common pathways taken through exhibitions, patterns of interest across particular exhibitions, and other such insights that would be near impossible to gather otherwise.

about us

In 2015, Eazel founder Eric Yoon reflected on the ease at which information was made readily available on the internet, but was confused as to why this new global democratization had not proliferated into the art world. Artists and art venues had all the necessary trappings of marketing in a digital age, such as websites and social media accounts, yet the global attention paid to these institutions had seldom increased. Baffled by this phenomena, Eric considered the feasibility of using virtual reality (VR) to broadcast a totally immersive viewing experience of the art world for everyone to enjoy. The goal, as he saw it, was to create a compelling online experience that not only directly benefited art venues and institutions, but also facilitated art discovery and education for the general public. Once the mission was clear, Eric recruited fellow Colby alum Arjun Sahgal as a co-founder. Combining their backgrounds in art, business, and finance, the two became determined to make the art world more accessible by way of new technologies. Filling out the Eazel family with a roster of art patrons and aficionados, Eazel has since established markets in Asia and North America.

Fast forward three years, Eazel is operating in six countries with over 250 partnering art venues, including leading galleries and museums, participating within international network, reaching more and more art lovers everyday.
